Matan’s Plan for Milestone: Live/Work
Germantown, MD (MARYLANDNEWSLETTERS.COM) – Aiming to create more of a ‘place’ than just an office park, the Matan Companies is pursuing a plan to bring mixed-uses to Milestone Business Park.
Where it already has some 635,000 square feet of office space just off Father Hurley Boulevard in Germantown, Matan wants to add 485 apartment units and 28,000 feet of street level retail. It’s an ‘infill project’ that would give Milestone the Holy Grail of office park developers up and down the I- 270 Corridor: an ‘amenity- rich core.’ The office park already hosts some of the biggest employers in the county, including Boeing/DRT, URS and DRS. But for Milestone and other stand-alone parks, the competition is either Metro Station or ‘amenitized ’ locations.
Matan bought Milestone in late 2013 in part because the firm felt that a north county location could capture companies who wanted to shorten their employees’ commutes. Getting the mixed-use CR zoning through the zoning rewrite.
