Matan Companies Goes Pink; Raises Over $2,000 in Support of Breast Cancer
GERMANTOWN, MD – Matan volunteers stood out in the lobby at Milestone Business Park and in the courtyard at 270 Corporate Center in Germantown, Maryland donning their bright pink aprons last week. They were at a table selling cupcakes and other “pink” items, in an effort to raise money to fight breast cancer, something Matan has been doing for six years now.
“Every single cupcake, pin, bracelet, keychain or apron that we sold will go towards funding vital research that will save lives and ensure that more women affected by the disease become survivors,” said Priscilla Ford, Property Manager for Matan Companies. “I’m proud of our tenants for their amazing participation again this year, and even more proud to announce that we raised over $2,000 between the two office complexes, which is by far our best year yet.”
Matan volunteers sold cupcakes from 12:30-2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 28th at Milestone Business Park and on Thursday, October 30th at 270 Corporate Center. Regular size cupcakes were available for $2.00 and jumbo size cupcakes for $3.00. In conjunction with Lee National Denim Day, tenants were encouraged to donate $5 or more in exchange for wearing jeans to work as well, a fundraising idea that began in 1996 and has raised over $91 million dollars over the past 13 years. Two companies worthy of acknowledgement are Cini-Little International, Inc. and Moody Insurance Worldwide, both located at 20251 Century Boulevard, who had employees pay $5 to wear jeans and then matched their employee’s donations.
In addition to the breast cancer fundraiser, Matan Companies holds a number of fundraiser or community enhancing events throughout the year. “In the spring is theParty For the Planet Earth Day Event for our tenants on-site. This event educates and provides opportunities for tenants to reduce, reuse and recycle,” said Pearl Lane, Property Manager for Matan Companies. “There is also the annual Food from the HeartFood Drive to benefit Manna Food Center (http://www.mannafood.org/), Toys For Tots, and the Holiday Adoption Program, which provides gifts for underprivileged children.”
